10 Steps For Happiness at Any Age
73Handling Life As We Age
Age is something that is inevitable. Age is not a bad thing, with age comes knowledge, experience, wisdom, and understanding. Age also brings, wrinkles, weight that does not want to come off, skin that does not want to bounce back, hair that changes to texture/color and style, aching bones and muscles, and responsibility to know right from wrong, make good choices and take care of yourself.
For some, age is easily dealt with, but for others it can be an emotionally tantalizing experience. Age can bring on regret for what our youth lacked or what we feel we missed out on. Many have a hard time with aging as looks change and the feeling that they have lost their beauty settles in. Since we cannot avoid getting older, how can we handle life as we age?
It is going to happen, and you can not change that!
Age and be happy, even if you are not happy about aging
Step One of handling life as we get older is; do not live in regret. Living in regret will keep you from being happy, add to stress and progress the aging progression. Find a way to come to terms with who you are and what life offers, and all of your experiences. If you feel like you missed out on fun, STOP! If you want to think that way, you will never experience the pleasure and fun that being this age can hold. Have fun, here and now- you cannot change the past, so stop feeling sorry for yourself and wishing that you could.
Step Two of handling life older than we were yesterday; Sleep… Sleep is essential for a youthful appearance, as well as energy. If you do not sleep enough, age will certainly kick your butt much sooner than you will be ready for it to.
Enjoy the age that you are NOW...
Exersise is so very important...
If you are expecting it to last, take care of it so it will
Step Three handling life older and wiser is; dress your age. Nothing says grandma more than a floral printed Mumu, or someone attempting to look good in their teenager child’s clothing. Grown men should not show their boxers, wear backwards caps or sandals with socks. On the other hand, grandpa pants that are pulled up to their nipples with white knee high socks and loafers are also fashion statements that age any man. Dress your age, not younger or older than you are. You will not look like a teenager, but you will look like a presentable representative of your current age.
Step Four to handle life and getting older; work with what you have, and take care of it before you lose it. Once again, this is you here and now, no one cares about how you use to look or how you will look in five to ten years. If you are having regrets from partaking in such things as tanning, perming, and partying, that is good. Now regret it and move on, you can’t go back and take it back, so work with what you got now. Wear SPF every day. Moisturize your skin every night. Use wrinkle cream before you have wrinkles, and if you have problem skin, don’t pick at it, treat it. Many adults neglect their skin as they did as teens. This is not good. First of all, when you were a teen, your skin healed quickly, now… not so much. Seek advice from a dermatologist and go from there. Don’t create more havoc than needed for your skin tone.
Be happy with where you are and who you are
Support means so much for so many
Step Five to being a better older you is taking care of your body. Five pounds here or there was no big deal at 18 years old. At 35 years old, five or ten bounds here or there, is the extra layer of cushion you have on your tushy these days, and it isn’t as easy to get that worked off as it once was. Exercise now, to spare yourself the saddle bags now and later.
Step Six to a more youthful looking older age is for the ladies only. (At least I hope so). Wear a bra, and wear one that fits you the way that it should fit you. Nothing says I am getting old quite like nipples that rest beside your belly button. Keep em' up and supported ladies, they will go south soon enough, no need to help them there.
Do Not Fake What You Do Not Have....Please!
Step Seven for staying young longer is for the men only (again, at least I hope so). No comb-overs… if you are balding… just let it go. If the hair club is not your thing, shave your head. Bring sexy back with a short buzz cut or clean shaven sexy scalp. No matter how much you wish you still had hair, a comb over us doing nothing good for you at all.
Step Eight for aging with grace is growing as you age. Intelligence is sexy, and as we age we have more and more opportunity to learn. Take it in, and keep up with the times. Knowledge is power, and with the past and present in your hands…you could have yourself a whole lot of power if you are wise enough to never stop learning.
Age is nothing but a number...

Step Nine for being good at any age is surrounding yourself with others that are your age. When you are 40 years old, do you honestly think that dating a 20 year old is going to make you feel young? Probably not. You will probably end up feeling older as you find yourself surrounded by lingo and views that are 20 year olds. Being around people closer to your age will not only help you feel better about yourself, but you will probably begin embracing your age.
Finally, Step Ten for living life better at any age your are is, continue setting goals for yourself and your life. When we have goals, regardless of our age, we find we feel more fulfilled. Goals at every age are important. Without a goal, what is the point of living anyways?
Beauty and age, although recognized on the outside, are much better judgments made from what is in the inside. Love yourself, and others will love that about you, and your life will feel blessed, and age won’t be anything but a number. Happy Aging Everyone… No matter how old you are- you are looking good…

I agree...look forward in life and never back. Age is a good thing because that means the longer you are still around in the world...last thought...If I bald then so be it (I am keeping my body the way it was created)...I enjoyed this thanks
An interesting topic like this really enhances reader's mind to have more effective decisions over a certain issue.
These are great tips, and I feel better having just read them. I will feel really great when I put them into practice. Thanks.

I love your hub, be what you are not what you ain't! We see it happening all of the time, and I try to stay on the real side. Age will come if we live long enough, and I want to live. Therefore I still write and try to add a new venture to my being. Please check out my movie.

Great Hub! I like and I am agree with all the steps you have described, but I think that the last is the most important: " When we have goals, regardless of our age, we find we feel more fulfilled." This is true and it is true at any age.

H.C Porter I love your hub. Makes me laugh a lot and you have a good use of wording. I believe that your personality is apart of how you dress and if a person doesn't want to be perceived in a certain way then why dress the way you do? Great Hub!
