A Child's Poem- Butterfly Dreams
77To dream of growing up and having butterfly wings.
If I could fly as high as a butterfly
It isn’t the wings that make you beautiful- It is all your beautiful butterfly dreams.
I am a caterpillar with butterfly dreams.
I dream of growing up and having butterfly wings.
I fly higher than high and capture the blue in the sky,
I would show everyone just how high I could fly.
If I could fly as high as a butterfly,
I would stretch my wings and fly towards the sky.
I'd love all my colors and rest on the brightest of flowers.
As I played all day, enjoying each moment and every hour.
If I could fly high just like a butterfly.
No one would ask me why it is I want to fly.
I could stretch my wings and dance in the breeze,
And the whole wide world would stop to watch me.
If I was as beautiful as a butterfly-
The world would watch as I stretched my wings to fly.
I wouldn’t have to say excuse or pardon me.
Because I am a butterfly, out to stretch my beautiful butterfly wings.
I dream that one day I will be a beautiful butterfly.
I will have the most beautiful butterfly wings.
I will be free- I will dance in the breeze,
And the whole wide world will love me for simply being beautiful me.
You are already a beautiful butterfly, child.
Soon enough you will stretch your wings to soar through the sky,
But as you wait for that day remember one thing;
It isn’t the wings that make you beautiful-
It is the way you dream all your beautiful butterfly dreams.
I will rest on beautiful flowers...
The Magic of our Dreams
Where did this poem originate from? A poem explained by the Author.
I love reading to my children each night before I tuck them into bed. Reading to them not only gains me their attention, which at ages 3 and 4 is virtually impossible to do, it also helps me understand more of who they are. Based off of the different types and themes of books each of them choose, I have learned what my children are concerned about, but still too young to express in words. Through our discussions during reading time, I am able to gain insight as to what they value and what it is they need from me.
The Poem Butterfly Dreams, is of course an original poem by me, H.C Porter, but is a poem I have written for my children. My daughter has an imagination that takes her into a fairy tale that is beautiful, where she is this beautiful butterfly, fluttering her wings through the breeze-paying no mind to anyone or anything.
My son has more concern as to what others think and how he is seen. He has more of a tendency to want to be noticed, want to be appreciated verbally by being told how wonderful of a job he is doing, and how proud we are of who he is and his accomplishments. His imagination is also, very active. He dreams of being a superhero and fighting off villains and doing good for others.
In this poem, Butterfly Dreams, my son is the Caterpillar, dreaming of becoming great and doing all these wonderful things that make the world a better and happier place. On the same aspect, I chose the Caterpillar/ Butterfly Character and transformation as the focus of the poem, because the Butterfly is also my daughter. My daughter is beautiful, and has a tendency to capture the attention of every person in every room she enters. She does this with little to no effort, just as a butterfly does. She lives more in the moment and pays little attention or mind to what will come next. Although she appreciates praise and admiration, she is perfectly content being her biggest fan and doing what makes her happy, which is where the lines;" I wouldn't have to say excuse or pardon me, because I am a butterfly, out to stretch my beautiful butterfly wings.", originate from.
My daughter already realizes, she is a butterfly. My son, although takes more of the caterpillars role by dreaming of becoming the butterfly, without actually realizing that he already is one, because of the way he dreams of who he will become.
This poem is for every person and every child who dreams-because we are all beautiful butterflies. We each have our very own unique ways and ideas of who we are and what we hope to become. Our hopes, expectations, ideas, plans and views are our very own Butterfly Dreams.
Believe in your abilities to truly fly

This is very beautiful, the writing and the photography! The fact that it is about your children makes it even better :)
Hi H.C.
Beautiful foto's.
Nature has a wonderful way of displying her beauty. It can be through songs of birds, flowers in the fields or the colours of a butterfly.
It's sad that we as adults can't see things through the eyes of a child. It would be nice to be able to go as your daughter does into a fairy tale land just to leave all this adult maddness behind for an hour or two.
Lovely hub. UP/A/B
Take care H.C. and have a nice day.
