A Child's Poem-To Teach Positive Attitude and a Giving Approach to Life
Were you the Sun today?
Did you put to sleep the darkness?
Did you scare away the Boogie Man?
And Monsters that hide under the bed,
And shine for all to see?
Were you the light that filled the empty rooms?
Did you shine through the clouds in the afternoon?
Did you give your dog a shadow to chase?
Did you light up the day and never hesitate?
And shine for all to see?
Were you the happiness that kept away the rain?
Did you shine down on the park, while children play?
Were you able to sing on the merry go round?
Did the happy children make happy sounds?
Did you shine for all to see?
Did you show the flowers how to grow wild?
Was there laughter heard from a little child?
One thing is for sure, I must tell you something,
You’re always my Sun,
Who makes the darkness run,
And you always shine for me.
Parents that love their children...
Being someone's light, doesn’t mean that you are always deemed the winner. Many parents forget to tell and teach their children that they don’t have to win every race, do be great. If parents could teach their children how to view themselves, then the world would be viewed as having more opportunity. Unfortunately many parents don’t think about what they say or what they do and the way that their children absorb their rotten vulgar attitudes. They teach their children without ever knowing, that it is all about what you can earn and do for yourself, even at the expense of others. So children lie, they cheat, they steal, to get ahead. They pick on other children, and diminish their own views of their worth and capabilities. It is important to teach our children compassion and understanding-if we don’t, how will they ever learn it?
Parents should ask themselves- Did I shine today? Did I make someone's life brighter rather than darker? Did I help guide someone down a path by being the light at the end of the tunnel? Or did I spend my time-stepping on heads, attempting to earn more, be more, achieve more... for me?
Doesn't the world have enough dark empty corners? It is so easy to lend a hand and your light to brighten the world for someone besides yourself, and in the process- you may find that you are teaching your children kindness and self worth.

H.C. - this poem hit the nail right on the head. Parenting is all about the kids. We tend to forget that though we want our kids to be successful, it's so important to let them know that they don't have to succeed at everything. We as parents don't and can't succeed at everything, so why should we expect that of ourselves.
This is such a great reminder - I really needed this. Thanks - you take care of yourself and those little ones. I love the pictures.

Thanks for your comment. You are correct the smile of a child can warm the coldest of days- it is such a shame that adults dim the light of a smile for selfish reasons, without ever thinking twice

As always, I am so glad you were able to read this one. I thought you might like it-being a busy mommy as well :) I feel for the children who think that if they are not perfect they are not anything-each child needs to learn to look at this world and the people within it as endless possibilities, each of us having our own strengths and weaknesses. Weaknesses dont make us worth any less-they make us understand ourselves and our reasons for being here-just as much as our strengths do.

A great poem and such wonderful pictures. YOur love of family certainly "shines," HC, and it is wonderful to see.
You are correct about what we teach our children. We teach kids that to win, there must be losers. That we achieve at the expense of others. We teach children that weaknesses are faults, and that others' weaknesses are opportunities to exploit.

Thanks Mike for your comment- if more people knew what they were actually teaching their children, I have hopes that they would change to make their child a more generous person, rather than selfish and cruel, like so many people can be.

Dear H.C it's beautifuly written, i feel there are very few parents who try to find the best in their kids rather then pushing to get the best,whatever is the best in their eyes.your kids are lucky to have you.your writings show how sensitive person you are.
i like the following piece of writing so thought to share:
If I had my child to raise all over again,
I'd build self-esteem first, and the house later.
I'd finger-paint more, and point the finger less.
I would do less correcting and more connecting.
I'd take my eyes off my watch, and watch with my eyes.
I'd take more hikes and fly more kites.
I'd stop playing serious, and seriously play.
I would run through more fields and gaze at more stars.
I'd do more hugging and less tugging.
