A Poem- A deep red purple stains the ground

By H.C Porter

Shades of Dust and Gray

The tears flow from the eyes of depression

A deep red purple stains the ground

The world becomes dark and heart becomes cold

She tries to find a light in the darkness, but she only sees her shadow

She remembers when she stood in the light and tries to recall when she fell

But she can’t.

She is exhausted by her thoughts and has lost any will to figure them out.

Her sadness floats around like a lost drifting soul

Misery is her companion, one which has no need to speak

She no longer sees color,

No longer hears laughter.

She no longer tries to feel anyone or anything

The tears are empty now-the world is a tranquilizing calm

Nobody sees what she holds in her mind

Nobody sees her curled up in the corner

Nobody heard her cry.

Nobody heard her beg.

Nobody noticed when she stopped showing up, or checking in or following through

What sadness it is to lose a life, it is so personal when it is your own

She no longer wants the answers to the questions she once asked.

She no longer believes in hope or in dreams

She sits alone now in her eternal hell, never knowing, never realizing that the world is more than the shades of dust and gray.

I see her sitting, as tears flow and deep red purple stains the ground.

I helped her up from the corner

I now know what she held in her mind

Hold out my hand, hear her cry, feel her sadness in my soul.

She no longer needs misery-I will help her speak

Please don’t cry those empty tears

I want to help you see.

The world is a wind storm, of more than shades of dust and gray

There is light on the darkest of days,

Take my hand I will walk with you until you are able to find your own way.

She no longer sits alone in an eternal hell.

She sees color in the deepest shades of dust and gray.

She feels her thoughts and sees her dreams, and I can hear her speak.

Oh wow! How powerful. You are an excellent writer. I like how you repeated dust and gray as an image of her/your former life?

ralwus,

Thanks. I am glad you took the time to read and comment. Specially on that line. Poetry is usually a little tougher to get feed back on.

It is amazing what we can get through in our lives, even though our memories dont let us forget. What a lot of people tend to not realize is, who we once were-has everything to do with who we are now. When we become comfortable enough with our past, to let it go, we in return become stronger in our present and for our futures (if that makes any sense at all)

Again, thanks for commenting on my hub!

This hub stirred my soul. I was very moved by these words. There is that sense of loss and emptiness and wanting to fill it and be there for someone special. I love the way you describe things. You have a way with words. : )

Cheeky Girl,

Thanks for your comment-and compliment. This was one of those times that I just wrote-what I felt, paid no attention to what I was actually writing, and didnt try to write it to where it made sense to anyone but me-that tends to be when I am able to write my best.

Ken,

Thanks for reading-I really appreciate all your comments, and compliments. You are always so encouraging!

you have amazingly written about the emptiness within one's soul after a great loss and you have ended it so beautifully by focusing on the ray of hope, the reason to move on in life with positivity.i really love it.

Nadia & Madison

Thank you both for reading and commenting on this one. I have a handful of hubs that are much more personal than the others, this one being one of them- so I am glad that some people can read and feel what I was intending to portray in the words. I am grateful it was liked by both of you :)

No one sees

No one hears

No one notices she's not even there

No one loves

No one cares

No one hurts because no one even dares

Except the one who shares the pain

Except the one who knows your name

Except the one who took the blame

The one who takes your hand

And leads you home

Lovely poem HC

Your poem took me back to the many years that I lived with depression. Powerfully poignant. I cannot pick out just one line cause they were all so very true. I could feel and recall each and every word as if I had written it myself.

I was breezing through some of the comments and noticed what you had written back to rawlus. With tremendous insight you wrote.....

"When we become comfortable enough with our past, to let it go, we in return become stronger in our present and for our futures." How profoundly true and don't second guess yourself it makes perfect sense.

This poem will touch the lives of so many people.

Great Job, Rated Up!

Thanks Sage for rating this one up. Out of all of my work I have posted here, this is one of the ones that is extremely personal to me. To hear that you were able to relate to the words and know the desperation behind the depression-reassures me that I wrote my experience with accuracy. Thanks for stopping by and taking the time to read and comment on such a personal piece of my writing

In introducing your friend Chrystal to HubPages, you've shown us what a lovely character you have. Despite the paralyzing depression that I also know, you are a powerful poet.

Lovely.

"She no longer wants the answers to the questions she once asked." I found this a powerful image of the depth of depression. I have been there too and know what a hell it is no longer to want the answers. That is possibly the deepest pit one can find oneself in - when even the desire to make sense of the nonsense has gone.

Powerful poem. Thanks for sharing.

Love and peace

tonymac04,

Thank you for choosing this hub to read and comment on-this is one of my most daring/personal poems and I was scared to death to publish it when I did. I am glad that you saw the truth in my writing-although I am not glad that you have felt that desperate numbness which i descrided. I truly appreciate your feedback :)

notquitecorso, Thank you- I am glad that you found this one- I haven’t had as many views on this particular poem as I have on others-but it is one that I am glad I wrote and is an expression of what I was feeling during a time of change and new found understanding and acceptance of depression. So thank you so much for your encouragement and compliments-they mean a great deal to me :)

Really a great, moving poem, you validate the darkness of depression that not many understand, and you convey its misery so very well. Was glad to read the uplifting, light-filled close.

H.C Porter profile image

H.C Porter Hub Author 21 months ago

Kflippin,

Thanks so much for the comment. Depression is hard to write about with an accurate description to what it truly feels like to experience. I was lost in my mind for so long and felt like the hope that was out in the world was not meant for me-this poem reflects that-and it reflects the struggle to rise above it and pull myself out of my mind and into reality before I was lost to the depression. Thanks again for your perception-I really appreciate the feedback

Thank you for reading and commenting on this one. This poem was started when I was a teenager-and then edited and reworded for years until it became true to who I was. Maybe that is why it is so dear to me, and means a lot when someone takes the time to read it and comment...
