To answer the question asked by Huber Sam3m (this is a link back to his profile), "Would it be possible for someone to assist the clueless among us by walking us through the backlinking process, step by step?
Well Sir, I will surely try to provide you with some simplified steps for back-linking. As a content writer forwebsite design companies in San Antonio, I have written more than just a few SEO Websites. Truth is, SEO as a whole is a guessing game and process of elimination. Every website design company has their own way of providing SEO Services to their customers, some tactics work, others can actually harm a websites ranking on Search Engines.
Search Engine Optimization comes in two parts; Organic SEO and Non-Organic SEO. Each has its own benefits, and depending on who you speak with, the significance of Organic vs. Non Organic will also change.
Back linking is a part of a Non Organic SEO Package. Why are backlinks so important? The more backlinks pointing to your website, the more link juice is created, and the more relevant Google will consider your site for those key phrases linking from one website (or article) to another, also creating more doors to your website from other parts of the World Wide Web.Simple, right? Well, I wouldn’t say simple is the correct term, more like time consuming and often exhausting.
A Simple 5 Step Process to Use for Back Linking
Let me explain in a simple ‘Let’s Get Started with Backlinking’, System.
Step #1. Know you’re back linking relevance. Back linking although part of Non Organic SEO, is often dependent on the websites Organic SEO (Especially if you are hoping that some strange with great content online, will think you are great enough to want to backlink to your content or site). This is why it is important to use applicable, traffic driving key words that have low competition, but high searches. Place the search terms you want to be found for, into the content of the website. The further up on the content of the site the search word is placed, the better. (Remember, with SEO… every individual page of your website is seen as its own entity when Google’s crawlers go over the content and determine the relevance. Each page you want to be searchable will need SEO).
Google Likes You to Be Social- Give Google What It Likes
Step#2. Social Media is a must. Not only are they some of the easiest backlinks to obtain links back to a website or page, they are extremely relevant. Facebook has a PR of 9… With Google having a PR of 10, 9 is an extremely relevant page to link from… PR and PA as well as DA are all some things you may want to look at when preparing to distribute blogs to create multiple links backs to a site. The higher the better, and the better will result in your Hubs or Website climbing Search Engines with more ease.
Step #3. For Huber’s, I would suggest start with creating link juice between your pages, and implementing you Social Media Sites into the mix… These are the fastest and easiest ways to get more doors created for you. May I suggest the following Social Media Sites to create yourself an account on; Twitter, Facebook, Stumble Upon, DIGG, Tumblr, MySpace and LinkedIn. Each of these sites allows you to build your audience and traffic to your website. It will not happen overnight but it will happen if you stay active in your social media tactics.
Socially Connected, it is being used for way more than Instant Messaging...
Original and Fresh...Always and Forever Luv Google
Step #4. Blog it Baby… Blog-Blog-Blog…haven’t you heard, content is KING of the internet, and because of this, if you do not have a company blog, you are asking to be 2nd rate. For the first time I know of, writers are in high demand, all because of this content and SEO stuff. Everyone needs fresh content because Google gets all warm and fuzzy when there is new, unique content on the web. I suggest that all you Hub Page writers get to writing and blogging on other sites, if the focus is on driving some traffic back to your hubs.
As you blog remember this…NO COPIED CONTENT! Although you want the Search Word(s) to be the anchor text in your Hub, as well as and the Blog you are linking back from, if you copy the content from one site onto another site, you have just made the content un-unique, this will in return hurt your rankings on both sites. Although you had written original and unique content initially, you become less relevant the instant that you copied and pasted you content.
If you want to maintain multiple blogs to link back from, go ahead and take the time to rewrite your content by adding some additional information to the article/blog/hub you are wanting to be ranked for, or perhaps discussing your topic from a different angle. No matter how you rewrite your content you must make each of the articles different but also relevant to what you are wanting to be ranked for. Creating uniqueness and relevance in what you write is something that others and most importantly Google will love you for.
Share Your Work...
Step #5 every time you publish a new Hub or a new article, let others know. Send an email to Mom, to Dad; to your friends and your Boss (only if you want your Boss to see the side of you, that will be on the top of Search Engines). These emails act as more doorways to your Hubs, and the more doors with relevance the more success you can expect on the results pages for your search terms.
I hope that this is simple enough to get you started back linking and drive additional traffic to your Hubs or websites. Good Luck, Search Engine Optimization can be a bit of a beast.

fonta, I started to answer your question, then realized I was writing an entirely new hub...lol, so instead of writing that hub in the comments,I will go ahead and organize a second hub to further explain back linking and No Follow Back Links. What I would like to ask you is, what do you mean as far as credit goes? Your back-link will still work, it just doesn't take away from the PR of the blog or site that you are linking from(virtually you are telling google-don't follow the link to rank me-just use the content i have here to judge my relevance for searches)... many use No Follow links if they do not trust the content or site they are linking to... In as much as back links are very important(pre-panda times), the word around is "content is king" especially after the big panda attack, but high quality back links from high PR Sites like you rightly suggested can still come in useful.

chinemeremz - VERY TRUE! Content is King of the Internet, but the main content for organic seo is the important content... the backlinks are aimed more towards off site sources pointing back to your site, pushing up the relevance of your sites content, and the businesses service. There is no use in having killer content if no one ever reads or finds it...and to find it Backlinks are helpful....But I 100% agree...Content is King...without content SEO is not possible... How much unique content would you consider is enough to bring value to a web page? I know google is always touting about how it ranks websites highly that deliver value to its users. Is there a sweet spot for the word count?

All of your content should be unique... if you are writing it and not copying and pasting, you will be fine. If you are using some sort of an article spinner, that is a bad idea...they often make content sound scrambled-but if you are, and I cannot deter you from using it, aim for at least 30% uniqueness (to be extra careful 50%).
As far as word count goes, that depends on your sites layout, and where you want to drive traffic to. Every page you want to drive traffic to will need to be optimized for the keywords you want to be found for. If you are optimizing for say 2 key words per page, I would say that no less than 300 words but probably about 400 words of relevant content with keywords each mentioned at least twice in the content, and proper use of your h1/h2 tags as well as keywords in your meta description (or the summary if you are optimizing your hubs) will make your content and site easily recognized by google, but not get you in the danger zone for keyword stuffed content. If you are optimizing your hubs... pick your top two or three search terms and focus there. Have your #1 term within the title of the hub and then the other two as Sub Header Titles (title for each block of text). Use these terms in your pictures (titles and within the description). Hope that all made a little sense… if not I will try and explain better.
I'm all about bringing more traffic to my hubpages, but I am not too sure about blogging. Would I have to use the same SEO techniques to get views to the blog? It seems like it could be a never ending circle of blogs to support each other. Thanks for hub. Voted up and useful
Joe, You are very correct- Blogging can become a mess. If you are hesitant about creating a new blog to guide traffic to your hubs, NO WORRIES... First, to answer your question about applying SEO techniques to a blog as you are your hubs... yes...to keep the link-backs relevant to what you are linking from. If you do not want to do this- Social Media is a great helper with SEO, and you can create link-backs to and from each of your hubs, here on hub pages.
If you have 2 hubs, each linking to one another and each linking to Facebook, Twitter and Stumble Upon, you have just created a number of doorways to each of your hubs. If you continue to link to your hubs with each new hub you create, as well as Stumble, Twitter and Facebook... your doorways will continue to grow and so will your relevance. SEO is much like a guessing game- try something for awhile and if it doesnt work...try something else. Do not worry about not wanting to Blog... you can have ample back-linking opportunities without creating a whole new blog to drive your traffic up

I was always wondering how the rss feeds works - they list a summary of the hub, isn't that treated as a duplication? Or is it fine as it's not part of the article itself but meta description only?
Ania L, an RSS feed is designed to send a short brief of the article to another webpage/site- Google will not see it as copied content because in itself it is a window into the article or webpage that the RSS feed is for. It will use the Meta Description if the Meta Description is there. If not it will use the first group of words readable by the Google Bots. Hope that did not confuse you any more. Backlinking can be a double edged sword - Too much of it can hurt you and too less can reap no or little rewards. For starters, this hub is a nice guide as it contains basic and easy to understand advice, staying true to the title. I am sharing this hub with friends and followers hoping that it reaches out to people who are looking to immerse themselves in the world of backlinks.

Thanks for all your info on backlinking. I've started to see the organic links to my hubs which is encouraging. I have found Facebook to be my best friend in sharing hubs and am going to branch out to other social networking sites now that I've got a bundle of hubs to play with. SHARED!

Whats your take on article syndication, I know you commented on content is king I completely agree with you there, but the more I read up on seo the more questions that get thrown up, so would you suggest article syndication or go for unique content all the time?
