Just Like You
63Domestic Abuse happens everywhere... We just don't always notice what we should see.
Just like you-to cause such abuse
It is just like you
To make me feel less than me
You take away what I think and make me believe
I don’t believe in me-I am supposed to believe in you
I become wrong as I am shown how to lose
It is just like you to make me see less of me
Replace what I wanted for what you say you need
Pretty soon I become a less important version of what I can never be
Struggle to see more-Struggle for a chance
Give up a dream-and realize what I never had
It is just like you
To make me feel less than me
You become more right- as I am shown how to bleed
Left in the corner- to figure out the truth
The truth doesn’t matter-when it comes down to me and you
I’m not much like me
The more I’m with you
I am less than my worth-bothered before bruised
I forgot what I wished for when I wished on a star
Now I am lost- and can’t tell where you are
It can’t be more like us-when I couldn’t remember how to breathe
Now you are whispering as I walk to leave
You explain to me in a calm collected way
How crazy I am, and owe you who I’ve become today
For a moment I pause-and hesitate my next move
Before an insult meets your lips- I hear the sound and know I lose
Nothing within the words-means love or grace
Nothing within your gestures-replaces the lack of care upon your face
It is exactly like you
To make me believe
That everything which is wrong
Is my own disease
I must be crazy- I am a fool
But it is no longer me-
And I lost my place in your world.
Swept up, kept up-
Lost from what I found
I am not prepared to lose
As I make a journey to figure myself out
Even if I can’t make it,
At least I will fall on my own
Something I needed to do from the beginning and all along
It is exactly like you
To laugh at me
To take away my credit and degenerate by belief
Every opportunity you have had to hurt what I feel
Every single moment you found to blame me for what is not real
I should have seen this was just like you
Never caring about me as the world revolved around you
But just like me
I wanted to believe
That there was some sort of truth even if I couldn’t see.
Now it is time to face the truth,
Regardless of what I feel or how it hurts as I focus on you
I must become a me-that can stand on my own two feet
Because I need to know I don’t need you to lean on
After all…all you ever showed me is how to take the defeat every time you won.

Abusive Relationship and Domestic Violence...and the harm it causes
Domestic Abuse and various form of domestic violence are unfortunately apart of our history and world. Many woman have suffered through various forms of Domestic Abuse , including verbal abuse, physical abuse, mental abuse that causes poor self-esteem and a lack of self-confidence as well as the emotional abuse that is so easy to misplace and easy to manipulate around. Domestic Abuse is wrong, Domestic Abuse and Domestic Violence cause more than just visible scars. It is often the unseen scars that are not so easily healed that are the real danger that is associated with Domestic Violence. The unseen scars are often associated more so with Verbal Abuse, because verbal abuse is more so personal and disintegrate one’s Self Image and diminish one’s self confidence. Verbal Abuse and the poor self-esteem that is associated with it can be considered the silent way to do damage without the physical abuse and Domestic Violence within non healthy relationships. Abusive relationships always harm and rarely change.
Abuse happens to, too many and many stay because they believe they deserve what they receive. They do not, you do not. Abusive relationships come in all forms, and effect each of the victims in their own unique ways and manners. An abusive relationship has no love, no heart but only the emotional abuse that can give poor self-esteem and decrease in self-confidence.
No one deserves an abusive relationship or this kind of pain or struggles. You are as good and deserve as much as you want. Each person deserves to be someone’s special, and to be someone whom is loved and respected, not hurt for who they are and what they dream for, hope for and dedicate their time to.
I wrote this poem many years ago when I found myself in an abusive relationship that was toxic to the extent that I was kept from being me, from being able to become who I am today. Although my abusive relationship and experience has ended, it was a situation that I am sure many people find themselves in today. To realize that you are not loved by someone you believed you were in love with is a heart crushing moment. But as you walk away from such a poison, you start to feel your soul once again. Every moment after the end comes, is more enjoyable than the one before.
Love should not be hurtful, cruel or make you feel as if you are less than deserving of the very best. As hard as it is and as much as it hurts to walk from a false love- the alternative is to slowly let yourself drift away from your potential of being who you should be and what you were made to be. There is more awaiting you after the end-you just have to get there to truly see it.

This touches heart and soul
I love your poem. It was absolutely amazing and beautiful.
But what I love most about this article is how you talk about it. This subject is one of many that is just too hush-hush in our society. All we ever see is the scare tactics. It's nice to see it laid out in real terms. You are right about love, it should be nothing more then grand, what makes you feel that you are the best.
A very touching hub, thanks for sharing.
Take care
Eiddwen.
Enjoyed reading this hub. Reminded me of a past relationship before I met my husband. Glad I walked away before that guy did (and he would have eventually). Your hubs are so important to those who need to see and hear them so that they can save the rest of their lives from the hell they are in. Rated up and awesome.
Beautifully written, your words do justice to all the unjust that is out there, bravo.
A wonderful poem and important information! Thanks for posting this! Great work!
You have come a long way. You express what is most difficult to express--how an abused person feels.
you are so amazing, this is so sad and beautiful and breaks my heart. I have been in my share of bad relationships and now I am watching one of my daughters, I spoke to you about her before, go through one as well, I will be sharing this and so many others of yours with her. Thank you for your beautiful honesty
Wow!
If I may Quote Branka Babic - "Moral is based ON OWNERSHIP and CONTROL. Human psyche develops delusive SADISTIC (owner's) or MASOCHISTIC (owned) experience. All techniques based on LAW OF ATTRACTION could eat your endless time, enabling you eventually placebo effects."
being open and honest looking at yourself is the answer to freedom from this chain. You are obviously open and looking at yourself in a manner of growth - well done - keep on growing.
H.C, once again a great hub! You truly are such a beautiful writer and such a wonderful woman. I cannot thank you enough for the words that you have written here-- you have reminded me that I am not the person I see in my abuser's eyes, but my own person capable of getting back up, moving on, and finding as well as embracing my potential to be truly me. Thank you so much-- AMAZING hub!
What you say is so true, H.C. It is truly then that we find our strength and can begin to build on it. It is the journey after that strength is found that we rediscover who we are, who we can be, and what potentials the world has to offer.
It is from your wonderful words and talent that I am pulling direction, H.C, do not deny yourself that huge compliment. You truly are a wonderful writer who knows how to speak to the heart. It is with great pleasure that I follow you and your amazing work.
