Remember Alex Brown- Support B.U.S.T

On November 10^th 2009, a 17 year old girl traveled down a road to school she had traveled down hundreds of times before. While she was driving, she was doing something most people do every time they are in their car headed to the store, to work, and to pick up the kids. On November 10^th 2009, Alex Brown, a straight A student, the school mascot, a basketball player, a member of the FFA, a student, a friend, a daughter, and a sister left her home for the last time. When she didn’t show up to Seagraves High School for her 2^nd period class, a call was made to Alex’s mother who was also a teacher at Seagraves High School. Alex’s mother Jeanne began calling her daughters cell phone, unable to get an answer she hurried through the school parking lot to her vehicle where she set out to retrace Alex’s normal route to school.

Before Jeanne arrived on the scene, she already knew something was not right, something was not okay with Alex. Jeanne approached the wreckage of her daughters while pickup truck, and immediately began to pray. Alex was not in the vehicle. As Jeanne cried, Alex, what have you done, her daughters cell phone which was lost in the wreckage began to go off, informing that a text message had been received. Jeanne found Alex lying on the ground away from the vehicle she had been driving.

Alex was transported to the local hospital, where she died later that same day. On November 10th, 2009, Alex’s parents lost their daughter, Alex’s sister lost her big sister, Alex’s school lost their Mascot and the world lost a beautiful person.

What could have caused this tragedy on November 10^th 2009? Why did Alex Brown roll her white pickup truck, which launched her from the cab, before it then rolled over her body? Why did Alex Brown, a girl with all the promise in the world, lose her life too soon? The answer is one that we are all guilty of. Alex Brown died on November 10^th 2009, because Alex Brown made a decision to Text and Drive. The distraction of her cell phone and sending a message to a friend, along with the decision not to wear a seatbelt, is what ultimately caused Alex Brown to lose her life.

Since the loss of Alex’s life, her family has not just mourned their loss, nor have they allowed their daughters life to of ended in vain. Jeanne and Johnny Brown now haul their daughters crushed pickup truck to high schools, and give presentations to teens on why they should make the conscience choice to not Text and Drive, using their daughter’s story as a real life story of ammunition to assist their pleas with the teens. Remember Alex Brown, and do not become a statistic. Remember Alex Brown, do not take your life for granted. Remember Alex Brown, Do Not Text and Drive, for life’s sake.

As many know, I write content for a San Antonio website design and development company. I had just completed the SEO content for a San Antonio Body and Paint Shop, for the SEO Company within the Website Design Company I work for, when a page was added to the site. The site would be dedicated to show support for this cause and to show respect to this family and the life of this admirable young woman. Alex’s story brought me to tears, both as I watched a series of videos and as I wrote the content for the Body Shops webpage. What a senseless act and horrible consequence- I cannot even count how many times I have text messaged a friend, my employer or my family while driving a car before I learned of Alex’s Story. I can however count how many times I have sent or read a text message while driving my car, since I have seen this story, ZERO.

Nothing I can say over a text message is worth my life, worth the life of my passengers or worth the life of others whom are driving on the roads, NOTHING! If I am running late, or if I need to send a text, it is a better much safer idea to pull over and do and or say what I need, before merging back into traffic. Is your life worth a LOL (laugh out loud) or OMG (oh my God)text message? Because OMG, LOL may be the last thing you have a chance to say if you don't take the time to really think. IDK (I don't know) if LOL is so important, you are willing to die for it, and you don't really need to say TTYL(talk to you later), if you don't text TTYL is already understood. Make sure you can BRB(be right back), wait until you stop to text message.
