Writers Community- Rules, Regulations and Critisism

I considered writing a Hub of this type of content after reading the insight of another Huber's experience with the rules having to do with subject matter and content. It made me think, what limits we all have, even though we can write about anything. Although I understand the point behind Hub Pages rules and regulations, I do not fully agree with them. I began writing when I was 10 years old. I did this, because it was an outlet and a way for me to express myself when I couldn’t get the words out to say how I was feeling, what I was thinking or what I believed. Writing is considered to be a creative outlet, correct? So why is a creative outlet given boundaries? To fully express ones self with words, pictures and expressions; may not and does not always fit into a box that is packaged with silly pink ribbons and pretty little bows.

I am not implying that I believe that it is okay to purposefully write something and publish what you write, with your main objecting being to hurt someone or disrespect someone’s views and beliefs. That is not what I consider to be creative, that is cruel, unjustified and it is slander. But to put together words in a constructive way that challenge another persons views, and state your opinions on what another person has written is called criticism. As a writer, you should be able to absorb criticism for what it is or let it role off your back.

Each of us has but one mind and one perspective in a world of millions of writers and thinkers. I have and still do welcome all comments, thoughts and feelings on anything that I write and publish. Perhaps a comment that another leaves will open up a new door to new thoughts or give me a reason to further comment on what my original ideas and perspectives were, to justify what I wish to portray.

As for the hubs out there that are, written to build contrast on perspectives about a hub created by another person. I love them. Two thoughts-two writers and a variety of interesting points. For an example, and because some of his Hubs have been viewed as being non-compliant to rules and regulations, lets use wsp2469. It is every readers perspective to read or not to read what he writes. Why does a Hub that has subject matter which puts a new perspective on a previously written hub by another writer cause any upset whats so ever? I follow wsp2469, because I find his hubs resourceful, interesting, insightful, passionate and if nothing else entertaining. I believe that his hubs are well written and the pictures that are chosen to aid his hubs are perfectly combined with witty sarcasm and realistic views. If he ever decided to write a hub, which gave different insight to a hub which I wrote, either proving me wrong, or adding humor-I would probably thank him, and add a link to his hub within the article I wrote. This way-the readers get two perspectives.

I have never, not approved a comment on any of my writings. If it is negative, positive or an attempt to call me out, so be it. It isn't very truthful as a writer to edit out what readers think and comment. It's like taking the side effects of a pill bottle and leaving the benefits.

Although adult content on a place like Hub Pages, is something that I believe should be tasteful and non pornographic, a glimpse of a nipple does not make a photograph Rated XXX or even Rated R. Take a look at how a movie is rated before it hits the theaters. How do you think a partial nipple, or butt cheek would/should be rated in terms of appropriateness?

Because we all have the option to click off another person’s hub just as easily as we click on, self expression should not be thought about in such a negative way when it comes to showing skin and suggestive insight. If you are an adult and are writing and reading on Hub Pages; grow up. The entire issue of reporting an ‘offensive’ hub, reminds me of when my two year old tattles on his little sister for picking her nose. What is my reaction when this happens? I tell my two year old to sit down and don’t look at his sister. I tell him unless she hits, scratches or bites him; I don’t want to hear him tattling on her anymore.

If you don’t like nipples, sex or sarcasm; what a boring life you must lead. Perhaps you should not write on Hub Pages, but should revert back to training pants and sippy cups.

I love writing here; I hate having to worry about each detail I choose to publish being looked at in a negative way, or offending someone to such a degree that I will be put on probation or kicked off for what I write. Should we have standards and rules? Yes. Should we have standards or rules that are not clearly noted, but dependent on the perspective of the administrator whom is assigned to review our writing after a hub receives a complaint on its content? No, this isn’t fair, if something that I write is up to being judged-you can not expect me to write within the lines when the lines are not drawn.

As writers and creative thinkers, it is second nature to many of us to push boundaries and recreate lines. To penalize any one of the people who do this is in itself a contradiction to what a Writers Community is about.
